Master of Science in Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism

The Master of Science (MS) thesis option is designed for students interested in progressing to advanced studies in a doctoral program, as well as those pursuing professional careers. 

While the MS thesis program is customized by the student and their advisor to suit their circumstancesit is a common requirement that MS thesis students should take a minimum of 15 HMGT credits (not including HMGT 691). 

The MS coursework should include: 

  • A minimum of 3 credits statistics 

  • A minimum of 3 credits of research methods 

  • A maximum of 8 hours of HMGT 691 (Research) 

A final degree plan should be approved by all members of the committee and should reflect the expected rigor of an MS degree. 

The Master of Science non-thesis option is intended for current professionals or those seeking a degree leading to professional service in hospitality, hotel management, recreation, events and tourism 

While the MS non-thesis program is customized by the student and their advisor to suit individual circumstancesit is a common requirement that all MS non-thesis students take a minimum of 15 HMGT credits (including HMGT 693 Professional Study). 

MS non-thesis coursework should include: 

  • A minimum of 3 credits statistics 

  • A minimum of 3 credits of research methods 

  • The use of no more than 12 hours in any combination of the following categories: 684, 693, 681, and 685 (no more than 8 hours Directed Studies may be used). 

A final degree plan should be approved by all members of the committee and should reflect the expected rigor of an MS degree.
