International Affairs - BA

The Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs is an interdisciplinary program designed to foster a comprehensive understanding of international dynamics.

This program is ideal for students who are passionate about public service and tackling the complex human, social, political and economic challenges that define today's interconnected world. Our program offers a comprehensive international perspective on critical issues related to economics, political science, social change, and world history and provides students with the flexibility to dive deeper into specific subjects and geographical regions of their interest. The degree program allows students to develop career legible tools necessary to succeed in an increasingly globalized world. Students will be qualified to pursue a range of professions including positions in the federal government, in the private sector with firms dealing with the international economy, and in the state and local governments that interface globally. 

Principle Objectives

  1. Analyze international political, economic and social issues
  2. Gain knowledge of international relations, political economy, international development, international societies, and international conflict and security
  3. Conduct research and evaluate data
  4. Think critically and globally
  5. Recognize varying approaches to argumentation, what counts as viable data and how it is gathered and presented
  6. Write clearly and present their findings convincingly
  7. Become proficient in a language other than English
  8. Successfully navigate terrain, both literally and figuratively, that is foreign to them, through successful completion of an international experience

Curriculum

The degree plan consists of a combination of International Affairs (INTA) core courses, directed electives tailored for each focus area, foreign language courses and at least one long semester or 10-week summer international experience with an emphasis on cultural and linguistic immersion.
