Program Details

Courses are selected by the student, their faculty member and advisory committee. The curriculum and individual student degree plan are designed to develop skills in specific academic and research areas and to meet the student’s career objectives. Master’s students are expected to conduct research, write a thesis on an original research topic as directed by their advisory committee and take a final examination during which the student defends their research to their advisory committee. The student and their committee decide whether to allow the public to attend the research presentation portion of the exam.

A non-thesis Master of Science may be available in certain laboratories or situations.
