Journalism - Minor
The Department of Communication and Journalism offers a minor in Journalism, which complements any major and provides essential tools for students who aspire to share ethically sourced and fact-checked reports with the public.
The Journalism minor offers foundational skills in reporting, including interviewing techniques and online research, as well as writing skills for deadline news stories, longer analytical pieces, and feature articles. Students also explore multi-media journalism and have the opportunity to take specialized advanced writing courses in areas such as political reporting, business reporting, sports journalism, arts and entertainment journalism, magazine writing, and investigative reporting—subjects that are particularly popular among students.
The required journalism internship offers another valuable opportunity for students to gain hands-on writing and production experience, while also serving as an impressive addition to their resume. Additionally, students can gain in-depth experience in the field of new media.
