The Department of Philosophy offers a 5-Year Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Philosophy. The combined program includes a non-thesis version of the Master’s curriculum. Interested students should apply in the first semester of their junior year in order to begin graduate work in their senior year. Students should work closely with their academic advisor to ensure a smooth transition.
This program provides a valuable option for students contemplating doctoral-level study in Philosophy or related fields. It is also recommended for students who, through a combination of credit by examination, dual credit, or community college credit, approach the end of their official undergraduate studies before having had the time to fully take advantage of the wealth of opportunities available at Texas A&M. Taking one more year to earn a Master’s credential will enable students to pursue more demanding and creative philosophical projects while exploring their career options.

A grade of C or higher is required for a course to be counted in the undergraduate major field.
The program includes a total of 156 hours, of which 6 hours of graduate-level coursework may be applied toward both the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and the Master of Arts in Philosophy (non-thesis).
College and University Requirements
Graduation requirements include 3 hours of International and Cultural Diversity courses and 3 hours of Cultural Discourse courses. A course satisfying a Core category, a college/department requirement, or a free elective can be used to satisfy this requirement.
