English - Minor

The minor in English is offered by the Department of English and is open to all students. Students with a minor in English cultivate expertise in different literary forms, traditions, and approaches. Students have the opportunity to take courses in creative writing, rhetoric, science fiction and fantasy, African-American and Latinx literature, gender and sexuality studies, and digital humanities. An English minor teaches students to communicate clearly and effectively, learn how to critically read and examine complex texts, build effective arguments, and recognize other points of view. These broadly applicable skills support and enhance the academic development of students who want to attend law or medical school, work in marketing or advertising, teach at a variety of levels, or work in STEM fields. Whatever their post-graduation plans, the written communication and analytical skills of English minors are essential for thriving in all endeavors.
