Choreography - Minor
The Dance Program offers a minor in choreography which can be used to enhance the major in dance or performance studies. This minor allows students to focus on dance making through knowledge in music, movement exploration, choreographic principles, and dance production. At the end of the choreography minor students will self-produce a concert with one to two other choreography minor students including new work, costume construction, lighting design, marketing, and stage crew management. This capstone experience prepares students to self-produce their work preparing them for careers as choreographers, artistic directors, and studio teachers. Students can also participate in program-based events throughout the year including concerts such as the Student Choreography Showcase.
The Dance Program and the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts bring in guest artists to work with students each year. These guests provide an array of opportunities for students including concerts, workshops, and setting repertory. This not only gives students a unique opportunity to build their resumes but to work with a variety of professionals in the field.
