DCED 618 Guest Artist Residency in Dance Technique

Analysis of increased coordination, stamina, flexibility, and proper alignment; demonstration of adaptability to various styles and choreographers; implementation of proper alignment during dance training; engagement in dance training with experienced artists. DCED 620 Music Praxes in Dance
Credits 3.

Examination of the histories and fundamentals of music through lenses of past and current dance practices; investigation of choreographic approaches relating to sound; development of skills to communicate between musician and dance instructor/choreographer; introduction to sound design and editing techniques using audio technologies; overview of processes through which music licenses may be obtained for dance performances. Prerequisites: Graduate classification.
DCED 621 Understanding Technology in Creative Practice

Understanding of the creative process and its applications in dance; understanding of the role of technology in dance making and its implications on meaning; examination of how technology is used in dance and its impact on the creation of dance works; examination of the use of space, time, energy into dance composition; conceptualization, creation and presentation of original dance works. Prerequisites: Enrollment in MFA in Dance or approval of instructor.

Development of an understanding of working collaboratively; techniques for developing a shared vocabulary; incorporation of other elements such as music, sound, visual design, text, and technology into collaborative works; techniques for navigating conflicts and challenges in the rehearsal process; presentation and performance of collaborative compositions; evaluation and reflection on the collaborative process. DCED 623 Choreography in Media Arts

Integration of video projections and live dance performance; training in media production to plan, test, and create two or more stage designs for dance; exploration of environment for dance including projections of the moving body; self-design projections in stage works for presentation. Prerequisites: DCED 621.
DCED 624 Producing Dance

Overview of the processes involved in producing dance performances; evaluation of traditional and contemporary styles of dance production; exploration of the roles and responsibilities of producers, directors, designers, choreographers, and technicians; discussion of business aspects of dance production including budgeting, funding, and marketing; exploration of collaborative approaches with stakeholders in the industry. Prerequisites: Graduate classification.

Theoretical inquiry and practical application to establish a working knowledge for creating art within the genre, screendance; choreographic principles are transposed from stage to screen; production from conception to dissemination; utilizes technologies to forward students’ artistic and creative vision; use of software and equipment specific to screendance. Prerequisites: DCED 624; DCED 621 or DCED 623.

Examination of various pedagogical theories and approaches to teaching dance; development of movement experiences designed for specific technical and dancer needs and assessment tools and artifacts for use in dance courses within the educational system. DCED 632 Screening Techniques and Assessment

Investigation of skills and knowledge needed to evaluate dancers' physical abilities; assessment of dancer’s strengths and areas for improvement; analysis of movement patterns as it relates to screen analysis, role of screens in injury prevention; evaluation of feedback and assessment and the connection to dance technique and training. Prerequisites: Graduate classification.
DCED 633 Research Application into Studio Practice

Investigation of the connection between dance research and dance studio practice; assist dancers and dance educators in understanding how dance research can inform and enhance their studio practice; review, analysis, and application of current research studies in dance, dance education, dance performance, and dance science. DCED 638 Teaching Functional Anatomy for Dancers

Examination of major muscles, bones, and joints as they relate to dance movements; performance of anatomical analysis of key dance movements and conditioning exercises designed for dancers; various teaching methods to cater to varied learning styles in the classroom. Prerequisites: Graduate classification.
DCED 640 Improvisation and Partnering

Exploration of the movement principles of space, time, and force through dance improvisation and partnering; development of movement sequences individually from various stimuli such as poetry, pictures, sculpture, and other art; experimentation with concepts of leading and following others through movement, and exploration of the properties of momentum, weight sharing, contact improvisation, timing and trust.
