Cultural Competency - Certificate
Companies are looking for new employees who recognize the importance of understanding and celebrating diverse cultures and possess the ability to work in diverse environments. The Cultural Competency Certificate developed in partnership with Texas A&M’s Department of Multicultural Services provides academic coursework, related co-curricular activities, and service-learning opportunities that prepare student to live and work in a diverse and modern global economy.

This program was closed for new enrollments effective November 8, 2024 and inactivated on January 2, 2025. Students enrolled on November 8, 2024 will be allowed to complete the program contingent upon proper processes and approvals.

An orientation session during which advisors will explain the purpose, structure, and requirements of the certificate.

Will consist of the completion of at least 4 courses, with a minimum total of twelve credit hours, chosen in consultation with, and the approval of, the certificate advisors. Certificate advisors may approve additional courses not on the catalog list to count towards the completion of this requirement.

Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in certificate courses.

Will consist of a minimum of 10 hours of participation in cultural competency related co-curricular lectures, presentations, and activities.

Will consist of at least 20 hours of involvement in an approved project.
- 6
Students will complete a capstone presentation where they will demonstrate how they have integrated and made sense of their experiences. This will include the completion of an extensive printed and digital portfolio detailing their experiences in completing the requirements of the Cultural Competency Certificate.
