Communication, Diversity and Social Justice - Certificate

The Communication, Diversity, and Social Justice Certificate, offered through the Department of Communication and Journalism, gives students an in-depth understanding of how communication intersects with issues of diversity and prepares students for a lifetime of successful communication practices in our diverse world. The certificate is grounded in a larger concern with social justice issues, with coursework emphasizing issues of power, privilege, and difference.  Students may gain practice in facilitating difficult conversations, examine the role of equity and inclusion in media, as well as consider the role of social movements in shaping our world today. Students will work in the classroom to understand and gain experience with difficult dialogues, issues of race, gender and inclusivity.  They will also participate in the community projects of their choosing to gain experience in real world social justice events and practices.
